🐾 Talking with Your Middle Schooler — Bulldog Style! 🐾
Because “fine” and “nothing” don’t tell the whole story 😉
💬 1. Ask oddly specific questions.
Skip “How was school?” and go for “What made you laugh today?” or “What was the best part of lunch?”
🚗 2. Find your talk time.
Conversations flow best in the car, while cooking, or during a walk — side-by-side feels safer than face-to-face.
🎧 3. Listen first, fix later.
They don’t always want advice — just someone to hear them out. A calm “That sounds tough” builds trust.
💡 4. Practice Boys Town skills together.
Accepting Feedback: “Thanks for telling me — I’ll try to work on that.”
Disagreeing Appropriately: “I see your point, but can I share mine?”
Making an Apology: “I’m sorry for how I said that — can we start over?”
Modeling these phrases helps them learn respectful communication at home and school.
🤣 5. Speak their language.
Ask about a meme, a YouTuber, or a TikTok trend — they’ll love being the expert.
🍕 6. Celebrate small wins.
Homework turned in? Locker found? Deodorant remembered? Middle school success!
🧠 7. Keep it short and real.
Long lectures lose them — quick, honest talks build connection.
❤️ 8. End with encouragement.

Remind them: “I’m proud of how hard you’re trying.” They might roll their eyes, but it matters.
💙💛 Every “meh” response is a chance to model patience, kindness, and Bulldog grit. Keep those conversations going, Bulldog Families!

🐾 Adams Middle School – ICU FAQ 🐾

💻 Why do I keep getting ICU emails?
Every time your student is added to the ICU list, you’ll get a notification. Once the work is completed satisfactorily, you’ll get an update!

📚 Why hasn’t my student been assigned ICU time?
ICU is an opportunity, not a punishment! Students can choose to complete missing/redo assignments at school during ICU times or at home. Please check in with your student about their plan for getting it done!

⏰ Does my student HAVE to attend ICU time?
No. They may complete the work at home. The goal = getting the work done, not where it happens.
📝 What if my student says they turned it in?
Teachers must grade the assignment first. If it’s done correctly, the student is removed from the list, and you’ll get an email. If not, they’ll stay on the list until it’s satisfactory.

🚫 ICU List vs. Ineligibility List – What’s the difference?
ICU List: Missing or redo assignments.
Ineligibility List: Students failing 2+ classes. Runs Thursday–Wednesday, may affect activity participation.

📍 ICU Times:
Morning: 7:35–7:50 AM – Room 111
Lunch: Bring lunch & work to Room 701
After School: Room 100
🐾 Our Goal: Every Bulldog finishes strong!
