School Business Partnership and Members

Purpose:
The School Business Partnership Program enhances learning by connecting students and teachers to business partners resulting in learning experiences that are authentic and relevant in order to better prepare students for the future.

What is North Platte's School-Business Partnership Program?
School-Business Partnership Program is a collaborative journey where businesses are paired with schools or educational programs to assist in preparing our students for success.  Partnerships are on-going dynamic relationships that must be mutually beneficial for the schools and the businesses.

The North Platte School-Business Partnership Program will begin in the fall.  The structure and process is being developed through the combined efforts of the North Platte School District, the North Platte Chamber of Commerce and the School/Business Steering Committee.  All schools in the district will have the opportunity to partner with a business of organization.  Activities of the partnership program lead directly to the enhancement of student learning and career readiness, while also promoting school and community involvement.

Who can participate?
Every school in the district and any business or organization may participate.  Partnerships can be with the entire school district, a selected school or specific program.  As a result, the size of a company or organization does not matter.  The only requirement is a commitment to assist with the school in educating and preparing students.  Partnerships are designed to work with teachers to meet the needs and interests of the business or organization and the school involved.

Program Structure:
School-Business Partnerships are unique and based on the needs and resources of both the school and the business.  Time, services or resources may vary from partnership to partnership.  To accomplish the purpose of the School/Business Partnership Program, the program utilizes the following categories of partnerships.

Community Partners

Businesses will:

  • Provide "resources" to all schools in the district.  Resources can include discounts, incentives for students, coupons, special programs or activities that occur because of a special event.

  • May provide human resources to be in schools and the classroom--Guest Speaker, Trainer.

  • Provide fund raising opportunities for PTO's or schools.

  • Be listed in the resource guide that outlines what they will provide to the schools.  This will be distributed to all Principals and Parent Organizations.  Teachers will have access on the District web.

  • School/Classroom

Businesses will:

  • Have an identified school or the district as their partner.

  • Focus on a school level; i.e. elementary, middle, high school, or the district.

  • Includes post-secondary and academy partners.

  • Partner with a grade level, classroom, department or as part of the School Improvement Goal.

  • Provide a moderate amount of human resources.

  • Provide activities designed to meet a specific school needs.

  • Collaborate with program facilitator and classroom teachers to supplement classroom learning experiences.

  • May provide donations or resources that are in direct relation to an educational activity.

Goals of School/Business Partnership Program

  1. Supplement classroom curriculum to connect learning experiences to businesses and the community.

  2. Provide students and educators with experiences to understand career opportunities.

  3. Establish a mechanism for the businesses and school to share expertise and services with one another.

  4. Develop mutual understanding of the importance of a strong partnership between education, business and the community.

  5. Increase job opportunities for graduating students.

  6. Expand opportunities for graduating students.

  7. Foster a climate of involvement, interaction, and respect between school, businesses and the community.

  8. Create opportunities for schools and businesses to enhance their image in community.

  9. Reinforce the relevance of the 21st Century Skills from a business perspective.

Summary:
Every school in the district and any business or organization may participate.  Partnerships can be with the entire school district, a selected school or specific program.  As a result, the size of a company or organization does not matter.  The only requirement is a commitment to assist with preparing/educating students for a successful transition.  Partnerships are designed to work with teachers to meet the needs and interest of the business or organization and the school involved.
