Washington Elementary | Kindergarten
My name is Ashley Bailey. I grew up in the middle of the sandhills in Cody, Nebraska. I attended Cody-Kilgore Unified Schools from Kindergarten through twelfth grade, following the footsteps of my mom, grandpa, and great-grandpa. My graduating class included 17 students, and some of my best friends were gained in those years. Following high school, I attended Chadron State College and began my education degree. I graduated with a degree in Education and a Secondary Endorsement in Early Childhood Education in December of 2008.
My professional career began after a semester of working as a substitute teacher. I was lucky to get a teaching job in North Platte Public Schools in the spring of 2009. This year began my eighth year of teaching. The first seven years were spent teaching Kindergarten, but I made the jump to Second Grade this year. Kindergarten has many endearing qualities that I miss. However, I felt that professionally I needed a change, and second grade has felt like a great move!
I met my amazing husband,Ryan, in 2012 when I purchased a phone from him at Verizon! Since then, he has changed jobs and now works at NebraskaLand National Bank. We were married in 2014, and we welcomed Addison Quinn this summer! Our lives were changed and blessed in so many ways the day she was born! We also have two important four legged friends, dogs Jax and Finn.
Teaching has always been a part of my life. I grew up watching my mom teach and begging her to let me ‘check papers’! I remember watching her, as a student in her class, and wondering if I could ever teach as well as she does. Even as an adult and teacher myself, I still enjoy sitting in her classroom and soaking in all that I can. Along with watching my mom and other important teachers in my life, I also practiced my skills on my younger brother and kids I babysat. I have always enjoyed being around children, and I hope to instill a love and importance for learning in them. Teaching is far from being an easy job, but every lightbulb moment and relationship built makes it very rewarding!
