My name is Doreen Goentzel, preschool teacher at Buffalo Elementary. I am originally from Brooklyn, New York and moved to North Platte in the fall of 1976. I attended North Platte Catholic Schools second grade through high school graduation. I earned my Associate of Arts degree from Mid Plains Community College and my Bachelors of Science in Education, Magna Cum Laude, from Chadron State College. I majored in Elementary Education K-8 with an Endorsement in Early Childhood.
My teaching career began with fifteen years in the North Platte Head Start Preschool Program. In 2008 I was hired by the North Platte Public Schools to help begin the new preschool program.
I am married to Jeff Goentzel, a paralegal for the Law Office of Waite, McWha and Heng. We have three amazing children. Kassie is currently attending the University of Kearney working on her Bachelor’s degree. William is a junior and Elizabeth is a sophomore at North Platte Public Schools.
From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I understand how important the early years are and I believe play is a child’s most important work. I strive to create a nurturing and loving environment where children can grow, learn and thrive while exploring the world around them. My goal is to help children develop the love of learning.
