Adams Middle School | Special Education
Hello, my name is LylaJo Childs. I graduated from Kimball Jr./ Sr. High School in May 2001 and attended Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska where I received my Associates of Arts Degree in 2005. Shortly after receiving my Associates, I attended Chadron State College and obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in K-8 Elementary Education and K-12 Mild/ Moderate Disabilities in 2010. I am currently working to achieve on my Master’s Degree in Special Education through the University of Nebraska- Kearney with a focus as an Advanced Practitioner Inclusive Collaborative Specialist.
This is the beginning of my 6th year in the North Platte Public School District working with students within the special education inclusion environment- 3 years at Adams Middle School working with 7th grade and my first year working with 8th grade students. Prior to teaching at Adams Middle School, I taught 6th grade Special Education at Madison Middle School for 2 years. I also taught for 1 year at Ogallala Middle School in Ogallala, Nebraska teaching 6th-8th grade Special Education within the Positive Behavior Support Classroom.
I am the oldest of 5 children with 1 sister and 3 brothers. I have 2 nephews- one is a 5th grader and the other one is a 4th grader. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my nephews and taking in all that they learn from one moment to the next, running when it isn’t too cold outside, hanging with friends, visiting new places, playing the piano and working on new craft ideas.
As a Special Education teacher, I believe I have responsibility to be an active role model in each of my student’s lives and, by doing this; I will have made a difference and an impact in their life. I strive each day to be the teacher that students remember due to the way that I taught them, how they were treated both in and out of my classes, for how much pride I took in their education and for how much I pushed them to never settle for anything but their very best. I fully believe any student can do anything if they put their mind to it and place an action behind what they want to accomplish.
