North Platte High School | Business

Hello! My name is Samantha Pavelka and I am originally from Maxwell, Nebraska. I went to Maxwell Public School from the time I was in pre-k to the time I graduated high school in May 2007. After high school I spent 1 year at North Platte Community College and transferred to the University of Nebraska at Kearney where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Education with endorsements in 6-12 business education and 7-12 history education. In 2014 I graduated again from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a Masters in Education in Instructional Technology with an emphasis in Instructional Technology.

Before completing my Bachelors Degree, I student taught at North Platte St. Pats where I taught various business and history courses. This experience allowed me to work with North Platte students and it taught me to be the teacher I am today.

After graduating from college, I was hired at Wilcox-Hildreth High School as a business teacher. At Wilcox I coached high school volleyball and track. I also sponsored the Future Business Leaders of America and the 10th grade class. After 2 years at Wilcox-Hildreth I decided to come back “home”.

For 2 years I taught at Adams Middle School as a business/computer teacher. There, I taught 6th grade Keyboarding, 7th grade Computer Applications, and 8th grade Multimedia. During my time at Adams I reffed the middle school home volleyball games and coached sprints/hurdles in track. I also sponsored the journalism club/yearbook.

I started at North Platte High School during the 2015-2016 school year. Here, I have taught various business courses: Information Technology, Careers, Personal Finance, and Accounting. I am also the Career Pathway Internship Facilitator. North Platte Public Schools is preparing to allow high school students an opportunity to work with area businesses and become interns to earn high school credit. We are excited about this upcoming opportunity.

As a teacher, I firmly believe in teaching students to be Career Ready. I feel high school is the stepping stone into the workforce and college. I want students to be prepared for both what happens in the real world and in college. North Platte Public School is also driven to get students career ready and prepared for what happens outside the walls of North Platte High School.

I am married to Scott Pavelka. He is a North Platte High School alumni who currently works for UPS. We have 1 dog named “Herbie Husker” who we adore. Scott and I are also expecting our first child in February of 2017.  We couldn’t be more excited!
