North Platte High School | Science
Hi, my name is James (Jim) Orcutt. I teach two dual credit classes at North Platte High School. Students can obtain credit at Mid-Plains Community College at the same time they are taking my classes. These classes are Anatomy and Physiology and Advanced Biology.
I grew up on a family farm in northeast Iowa. I graduated from North Linn High School in 1975 and matriculated to the University of Northern Iowa that fall. During the summers, I worked for a small construction company where I learned the carpentry trade, while paying for college. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree from UNI in 1979. I began my teaching career at Lanark Community Schools in Illinois where I taught 7 th grade life science, biology and advanced biology and coached 7 th grade boys basketball. My wife and I were married in 1981. She is self-employed as a home decorator and costume designer. We have two children. Kathleen who is married to Mitch Quick and they have a boy, Aiden. They live and work for businesses in Omaha, NE. Our son, Clifton has just become engaged and is an architectural engineer and lives and works in Phoenix, AZ. Both Kathleen and Clifton graduated from North Platte High School and obtained their advanced degrees from Hastings College and University of Nebraska, Omaha respectively. I obtained my Master’s Degree from Kearney State College (now University of Nebraska, Kearney) in 1989.
In addition to teaching, I also coach girls golf in the fall and boys golf in the spring. My hobbies are golfing, trout fishing, gardening, and woodworking.
