Washington Elementary | Physical Education
My name is Mark Woodhead. I am a native of North Platte and a graduate of North Platte Senior High school. After graduation I attended Chadron State College. My first year of teaching and coaching was in Alliance where I taught Accounting and Typing (wow, that dates me!) and coached football and basketball. I moved back to North Platte and have taught Elementary Physical Education for the past 33 years. I addition, I have coached my entire teaching tenure. I coached football, basketball, and track for 34 years. During that time my school year was divided up in three seasons. To date, I am the varsity girls basketball coach. The fondest memories I have as a coach are the years of coaching my own children.
I am married to Annette, and we are going on 35+ years. We started another chapter in our lives since raising our children (Ben ’02, Danny ‘04, Joel ’08, and Anna ’10), being grandparents! We have five grandchildren and another on the way! When I was younger, I never thought these days would come. I don’t feel that old, although I probably do look it.
Annette and I spend many miles on the road visiting our kids and grandchildren. The best of times for me is when I get to hang out with my kids. We have a crazy family and spending time with them is a hoot. They are my best friends.
Many kids graduating from North Platte make the comments, “I can’t wait to get out of this town.” I not only returned, but have enjoyed my time living here. North Platte is a great place to raise your family.
