North Platte High School | English
I’m Sarah Snively. Originally from Huber Heights, Ohio, I graduated from Wayne High School. I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Education from Ohio University in 2010, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Upon graduation, I lived in Ames, Iowa, while my husband, Darren, completed his Master’s at Iowa State University. During that time, I subbed full time.
In 2012, we moved to North Platte for Darren’s job with the National Weather Service. He has dreamed of being a meteorologist since he was in elementary school, so this is his dream. We are expecting our first child, a boy, in March 2017.
In addition to subbing, I taught for three years at Brady Public Schools as their secondary English teacher. I taught English for grades 7-11 in addition to coaching the speech team.
The year of 2016 brought a new change in my life: the chance to become a Bulldog. At North Platte High School, I currently teach English 11, Basic Communications, and Debate.
My philosophy as a teacher is to first know my content forwards and backwards, inside out, and upside down. Second, to love those kids. I strive to be a caring, calm, and positive force in their lives while holding them to high expectations.
I believe in the power of attitude. As such, my favorite quote comes from Charles Swindoll, who said, “We cannot change our past.. We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you… We are in charge of our attitudes.”
