North Platte High School | Family Consumer Science

My name is Liz Odle.  I am a Utah native. I grew up in Salt Lake City at the base of Mt. Olympus.  I graduated from Skyline High School in 1999 as a Sterling Scholar in Family and Consumer Sciences.  I then went on to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in 2003. My major was in Family and Consumer Sciences Education.  I met my husband my last year of college and we were married in August of 2003.  I received a job teaching Family and Consumer Sciences at Pleasant Grove Jr High School upon completion of my bachelors degree. I taught there for 3 years.

In 2010 I moved to North Platte. My husband had gotten a job here and we wanted to try living in a small town. I got back into teaching by substituting in the middle schools and high schools here in North Platte. In 2016 I long term subbed at Adams Middle School and decided I'd love to have my own classroom again.  I then long term subbed in 2017 at North Platte High School and discovered there would be an opening in the Family and Consumer Science department there for the 2017-18 school year. I was thrilled to get it and be able to have my own classroom again.  We have grown to love North Platte and the state of Nebraska.

In our spare time we like to drive around and discover all it has to offer.  Our favorite places to visit so far are Valentine for the waterfalls, and Omaha for the zoo, shopping, and restaurants.  I have 2 children a boy and a girl both of whom keep me on my toes, and a dog.  When not teaching I enjoy hanging out with my family here and visiting family in Utah, Wyoming, and Nebraska.  I'm thrilled to be a "real" teacher again.  I hope to inspire others to have a passion for Family and Consumer Sciences.  Always remember just like Mr. Bigwell said in the movie Robots "You can shine no matter what your made of".
