North Platte High School | Social Studies
My name is Brooks Greene. I was born and raised in Grand Island, NE and graduated from Grand Island Northwest High School in 2001. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Social Sciences from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 2006, my Master’s degree Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska - Kearney in 2011, and an additional Master’s degree in Physical Education also from the University of Nebraska - Kearney in 2016.
Before moving to North Platte I was a social science and physical education teacher at Medicine Valley Public Schools in Curtis, NE for five years. I also taught two years of social sciences at Saint Francis Indian School on the Rosebud reservation in South Dakota.
I currently am teaching my third year of 9th grade Civics and Economics here at North Platte High School. In the fall I helped coach the first year of middle school cross country and I’m also the 8th grade boys track and field coach in the spring. It’s fun to be able to develop relationships with the middle school students as athletes and then continue to grow that positive relationship in the classroom when I see them again as freshman students.
Our mission here at North Platte Public Schools is to produce productive members of society. Through teaching Civics, I have an opportunity to educate students about that process on a daily basis. It’s a fun subject that allows me to see students growing both with their level of knowledge of our country and government as well as their development as a personal citizen in society.
I’m very happy to be living and working in North Platte and appreciate the many opportunities the community provides for someone who enjoys an active lifestyle. In my free time I stay busy with many hobbies such as running, watching sports, and walking my dog Homer.
