Pre-registration for next year's classes has begun. Counselors have been speaking with sophomores and juniors-to-be about the classes they would like to take next year. This process should be done with care. The availability of classes next year depends on accurate pre-registration. Use the link below information about the classes offered at NPHS.
Set yourself up for success. Follow some of the following pointers to make the most of your high school experience.
College Bound Seniors:
• Apply and complete the process for the schools you are still considering. Have the Guidance Office send transcripts.
• Complete the scholarship process by turning in a resume and at least 3 letters of recommendations. Have them turned into the Guidance Office. Local Scholarships are due December 16th. Mid-Nebraska Scholarships will become available in February.
• Be on the lookout for national scholarships and listen for announcements about other scholarships..
• Register and prepare for the ACT, SAT or any entrance exam schools may require.
• Attend the Financial Planning Night, December 6th at 7:00pm.
Undecided Seniors:
• Think about what will happen after high school including your first full time job that will get you closer to your goals.
• If you have no idea on what will happen you can seek counsel with a guidance counselor, teacher or anybody that might offer valuable input.
• A simple model for a plan would be establishing short term and long term goals and devise a realistic plan on how to achieve them. The act on your plan.
• Focus on finishing your high school career strong.
Juniors:
• Revaluate what you are trying to accomplish by being in high school.
• Strongly consider options including possible schools, military branches or workforce opportunities.
• Think about the classes you will take next year.
• Gradually take more and more responsibility for your own success.
• Register for the April ACT.
Sophomores:
• Establish a goal as to what you want to do after high school.
• Think about the classes you will take next year that would line up with your career interests.
• Keep on the lookout for opportunities to participate in leadership opportunities, e.g. HOBY, Key Leaders and RYLA.
• Be aware of and prepare for the PLAN (practice ACT) test to be given to all Sophomores in December.
Freshmen:
• closely evaluate how the school year is going so far. If your status could be considered below your expectations, strongly consider making a dramatic change for in an effort for improvement.
• Find an adult in the building that you can trust and utilize that support.
• Be able to distinguish between good and bad advice from upperclassmen.
Parents:
• If you have not already done so, obtain access to the Parent Portal by visiting the main office.
• Become familiar with your student's schedule, teachers and class requirements.
• Frequently speak with your student about their progress in their classes. Seek specifics.
• Spend quality time with your child.
• Speak encouragingly with your student about their academics and attitude.
• If possible, provide and allow opportunity to further their goals and ambitions
Scholarship Information:Guidance Counselors visited senior English classes in September to hand out the Post High School Planning Guide.This guide will have valuable information about timelines, college requirements, resumes, the college application process, college visits, entrance exams and scholarships. Local and Mid-Nebraska scholarships will be listed. Throughout the year scholarships and special programs will be announced every Wednesday morning and posted on the school's webpage. Information on scholarships and special programs will be located in the Counselors' office. Seniors are strongly encouraged to set up an appointment to discuss post high school plans.
