North Platte High School Guidance Department
Pre-registration for the 2010-2011 school year has already occurred. Contact your guidance counselor if you have not already turned in your registration form.It is important to choose the best classes that will prepare you for your future.

Here are some items that you should be doing now:
College Bound Seniors:
- Begin the FAFSA. Here are some pointers.
- Call EducationQuest at 1-800-666-3721 to set up a time for FAFSA Completion Day March 8th and 9th. They will help you fill out the FAFSA.
- If you still have not done so visit your top college choices in person. Until then, visit them via College Virtual Tours.
- Be in contact with schools so you know where you are in the application process.
- Be on the lookout for national scholarships and listen for announcements about other scholarships. Mid-Nebraska Scholarships will be available soon.
Undecided Seniors:
- Think about what will happen after high school including your first full time job that will get you closer to your goals.
- If you have no idea on what will happen you can seek counsel with a guidance counselor, teacher or anybody that might offer valuable input.
- A simple model for a plan would be establishing short term and long term goals and devise a realistic plan on how to achieve them. Then act on your plan.
- Focus on finishing your high school career strong.
Juniors:
- Revaluate what you are trying to accomplish by being in high school.
- Research possible post-high school options including possible colleges, military branches or workforce opportunities.
- Make sure all of your efforts, attitudes and actions are in line with what your goals are.
- Gradually take more and more responsibility for your own success.
- Register and prepare for the ACT.
- Think about what classes you want to take next year.
Sophomores:
- Listen for the announcement that the PLAN results are in (end of January). Then schedule a appointment with your counselor to go over the results.
- Establish a goal as to what you want to do after high school.
- Think about what classes you want to take next year.
Freshmen:
- If you are not getting the grades you think you should be getting you might have to change your approach to school.
- Make sure you are turning in all of your work, going to school, participating in class and not preventing others form learning.
- Think about what classes you want to take next year.
Parents:
- If you have not already done so, obtain access to the Parent Portal by visiting the main office.
- Become familiar with your student's schedule, teachers and class requirements.
- Frequently speak with your student about their progress in their classes. Seek specifics.
- Discuss with your student what classes they might take next year.
