North Platte Public Schools | School Counselor

My name is Monica Kramer and I grew up in the Sandhills of Nebraska, north of Stapleton.  The work ethic on the ranch was rigorous.  Hard work and discipline were instilled at an early age. I graduated from Stapleton High School.

Post-secondary education included graduating with honors from Chadron State College with a degree in Elementary Education.  After graduation I taught in parochial schools for 23 years; 21 of them at North Platte Catholic Schools. During that time, I was named Nebraska’s Outstanding Educator.  I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a Masters of Science in Guidance and Counseling. I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a Specialist degree in School Psychology.

I began working at North Platte Public School in 1998 as an elementary guidance counselor.  In 2013, I retired, traveled to the Holy Land, and made a decision to return to North Platte Public Schools.  The mental health and wellness of students, which includes social and emotional learning, has been a passion. Over the past five years I have been a guest speaker for the Nebraska Department of Education.  I have had the privilege of speaking to educators across Nebraska about the topic of Mental Health and Wellness, and working with the Whole Child, in our school age population.

During the several years I have worked concurrently in the school as an elementary counselor and in the community as a mental health therapist at my private practice, Monica Kramer Counseling Service.  I have credentials as a Certified Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Specialist, and a Licensed Independent Mental Health Specialist.

On October 4, 2016, the love of my life, Randy Kramer, died. We had been married 38 years.  We have three children; Moriah, Nathan, and Josh.
