Eisenhower Elementary | Fifth Grade
My name is Andrea Hayes. I was born and raised here in North Platte and am a proud alumni of North Platte Public Schools. I attended Cody Elementary, Adams Middle School, and graduated from North Platte High School in 1996. In 2000, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, with an endorsement in Early Childhood. In 2014, I completed my School Librarian endorsement from UNK.
I started my career in 2001 teaching 4th grade at Lincoln Elementary here in North Platte. In 2004, I was transferred to Eisenhower Elementary, where I’ve been ever since. I enjoy teaching the upper elementary grades, having taught 4th grade for eight years, 3rd grade for six years, and now 5th grade for the past two years.
I’ve been married to my husband, Ryan, since 2001. He is a Trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol. We have two children, Ashlyn and Logan, who both attend North Platte Public Schools. We also have two aging fur “kids”--Trooper is our yellow lab, and Callie is our calico cat. When not at school, I enjoy reading and watching HGTV and Husker football. I’m also an avid hiker. My husband and I climb a couple of Colorado’s 14ers (mountains over 14,000 feet) every summer, and plan to do as many as we can while we’re still young enough to do it!
I come from a family of educators. My dad was a teacher, coach, and activities director for North Platte Public Schools before he retired, my mom was a secretary at North Platte High School before her retirement, and my older sister teaches 4th grade in Kearney. I’ve always believed that teaching was my calling, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I believe that being a successful educator begins with the relationships that are formed with students, and I feel that is my greatest strength as a teacher.
