Eisenhower Elementary | Third Grade

My name is Clancy Hammond. I was born and raised right here in North Platte. I graduated from North Platte High School in 1998.  After graduation, I followed my dream to play college volleyball, and attended Mid Plains Community College. I received my Associate of Arts Degree in 2000, but more importantly built a few life-long friendships while there.

I took a break from school for a few years to decide what I wanted to do next. This is when I met my husband, Tyson. Tyson is also a teacher and coach here in North Platte. It was his passion for kids that drew me back towards education. We married in 2007, and with his support, I decided to head back to college.  I received my Bachelors of Science in Education Degree from Chadron State College in 2011. The following fall I began teaching 3rd grade at Eisenhower Elementary. I am now in my 6th year of teaching 3rd graders, and I love it. There is never a boring day in the classroom. I find that I learn more each day from my students than I could have ever imagined.

When I am not in the classroom, you can find me on the sidelines of just about every sport you can think of. I just concluded my 4th year as the Head 8th Grade Volleyball Coach at Adams Middle School. I also coach and help facilitate a club volleyball team here in North Platte. When I am not coaching, I am cheering on our other Bulldogs’ teams. My husband coaches middle school football and JV high school basketball.

One thing I have learned in education is that relationships are the foundation of everything. I like being involved in my students lives outside of school. If I take a genuine interest in them and their activities, I have a much greater chance of getting through to them in the classroom. I truly enjoy running into former students and players after they have moved on. I like to see what they have accomplished, and hear about what they want to do in the future.

Tyson and I have been blessed with two beautiful children, Landry and Dylanie. Landry loves school, and is just beginning to discover how much he likes sports.  He is excited to try everything.  Dylanie is our wild child, and we can hardly wait to find out what her passions will be. They have had wonderful teachers who have built relationships with them.  This is instilling a love learning in both of them.  When we aren’t working our family enjoys working in the yard, taking care of our garden, making home improvements, and having fun on the golf course.
