Mary Derby, Principal
My name is Mary Derby. I am currently in my 6th year as the principal at Eisenhower Elementary. I have been a principal for North Platte Public Schools for the past 18 years. I began at McDonald Elementary in 1998. I have also had the privilege of being a principal at Buffalo and Associate principal at Adams Middle School.
I began my teaching career teaching 3rd grade in Duncanville, TX. I then taught 3rd grade at Hall School and 4th grade at Cody Elementary. After receiving my Masters Degree in Elementary reading, I served as a reading specialist for a K-3 early intervention program in Canon City, Colorado.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from The University of North Texas, A Master’s Degree from University of Nebraska at Kearney, I completed the Principal Licensure Program at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and hold an endorsement in assessment and leadership for learning from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
I was born and grew up in Buffalo, NY until I left for college in Texas where I met my husband, Scott. Scott and I have been married for 30 years. We have two bright and beautiful daughters, Corey and Emily. They are both married to wonderful men. Corey is a chef in Anchorage Alaska where her and her husband, Tyler are currently stationed. Tyler is serving in the Air Force. Emily and her husband Eric are both music teachers in northeast Nebraska.
