Purpose, Goals, and Timeline

Purpose:

We are asking parents, staff, and the community to look at what is best for middle school students. We must think not only about today, but also make decisions based on what makes sense for the future of North Platte School District students and the North Platte community.

Goals:

1. Review the information and data that has been gathered from the staff and community meetings held in March and April. (June/July 2013)

2. Review research articles and information from other school districts regarding the following; (July/August/September 2013)

a. Grade configuration – impact on student achievement and success

b. Transition – impact on student achievement and success

c. Socioeconomic Integration – impact on student achievement and success

d. Transportation – plan and expense

e. Personnel – impact on teachers and support personnel

f. Curriculum/Program – impact on program offerings and curriculum

g. Other considerations impacting student achievement and success

3. Present information and findings to parents/community/staff members via the website,

media, community meetings, and staff meetings. (October/November 2013)

4. Determine recommendations based on what is best for student achievement, student learning, and student success. (November/December 2013)

a. Present recommendations to the board of education.

b. The committee may express considerations for implementing the

recommendations when appropriate.

c. Provide supporting reasons for recommendations.

Timeline:

Wednesday, May 29th – 5:00 p.m. – Introductions, Purpose, Grade Configuration, Facilities

Wednesday, June 19th – time TBD – Research and Discussion – Transition, Socioeconomic Integration, Curriculum/Program, Personnel, and Other Considerations

Wednesday, July 24th – time TBD – Continue research and discussion

Wednesday, August 28th – time TBD – Continue research and discussion, and potential Transportation

Wednesday, September 25th – time TBD – Continue research and discussion

Wednesday, October 9th – time TBD – Continue research and discussion, potential Implementation Plan

Wednesday, October 23rd – time TBD – Plan for Community Forums and Information Meetings

Tuesday, October 29th – North Platte High School PAC @ 6:30pm – Community Forum

Monday, November 4th – North Platte High School PAC @ 6:30pm – Community Forum

Wednesday, November 13th – time TBD – Review information and feedback from Community Forums

Tuesday, November 26th – Board Meeting – Report findings to Board and possibly make a recommendation.
