North Platte High School Career Readiness Initiative

North Platte Public School District has chosen to create a Career Readiness program to better prepare our learners to become earners. This program will be an innovative and focused effort to link classroom learning to the world of work to further enhance the education process by providing students the opportunity to carry their knowledge from the classroom to the workplace. This program will take advantage of job shadowing, internships, and Registered Youth Apprenticeships in order to give students a taste of what they are interested in doing with their future. We fully encourage postsecondary education; however, all students will understand that it comes in many forms. The four-year traditional college is the next logical step for many students but the opportunities that are presented at two-year colleges, technical institutes, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training are often a shorter, less expensive, path to rewarding and high-wage careers. One of our goals is to reduce the stigma of calling anything short of the traditional four-year college, "Alternative Education."
