Coats for Candy Canes
Mrs. Douglas' class organized a coat drive in December to help out others in need in our community. They titled the coat drive Coats for Candy Canes and set a goal of collecting 200 coats! For each coat that a student brought in, they were given a candy cane. The fourth graders discussed the importance of helping out in the community and giving to those in need in the true spirit of Christmas. They found it was much more fun to give than to receive. On the first day they were very excited when they collected 44 coats! They had to get a bigger box to hold all the donations that came pouring in! It was a great experience for their class and they learned a lot about spreading kindness and generosity.
They would like to thank all of the people who donated coats for the coat drive, and also the volunteers who helped getting the coats to the Salvation Army! What a job that was! Thank you!
Totals for the Coat Drive were the following:
- 168 heavy coats
- 17 snow pants
- 3 pairs of boots
- 168 miscellaneous items (gloves, hats, sweatshirts, etc.)
