What is your teaching history? I began teaching at North Platte High in 1974 until 1981. At that time I left teaching to raise our twins. I returned to North Platte High in 1989.

What are your extracurricular responsibilities? I am on the National Honor Society board.
Why did you decide to enter the teaching profession? I have always loved school. As a child I went to school all day, went home, and played school all evening. My folks created a little classroom for me in our basement. I thought most of my teachers were wonderful and I wanted to be just like them.
What do you enjoy most about teaching? I like the paradox of teaching: every day and every hour are different but the same. One feels safe and secure in the consistent environment, yet when groups of people are involved one never knows what may happen.
What is your favorite teaching moment? My favorite teaching moments occur when everyone accomplishes what we have set out to do, when students’ minds wander beyond what is written on the page, AND when students decide English is not such an awful subject.
What is your favorite method of teaching? I like it all. I like the drill and memorization required of certain aspects of English like poetry; I like the spontaneity of dramatization; I like the quiet individuality of students writing. |
