McKinley Computer Lab
Online Assessment Training
January 18, 2008
The McKinley Computer Lab was updated this past summer and is now in full use for training seminars, workshops, professional presentations, and especially for use by teachers as they look for ways to embed technology into their curriculum to improve student achievement.
Recently, administrators from around the district gathered in the McKinley Lab to learn more about Online Assessment and to gain hands-on experience in using the data that is gathered to measure student growth.
The lab is well suited to provide the presenter with the latest and up-to-date equipment necessary to present an interactive workshop using SMART Board technology. Visitors to the lab also have access to state-of-the-art computer systems that are similar to teacher stations throughout the district. These computers in particular allow educators to use technology in the lab that they have access to in their classrooms.
The first semester offered several seminars for educators on SMART Board technology, Blogging, Wikis, RSS, and an introduction to iPod basics. This new semester will bring an extension of those workshops and will enable teachers to create, and publish online media with their students.
North Platte Public School professionals are being exposed to a range of uses for technology from training that allows administrators to assist educators with virtual mentoring, to teachers creating lessons that will enhance student learning. Much of this is possible because of the modern facility found at the McKinley Education Center Computer Lab.
