What are the different categories of substitute teachers?
December 27, 2007
There are 3 categories of substitute teachers. All types must either hold a current regular teaching certificate, a substitute teaching certificate, or a local sub certificate.
A substitute teaching certificate is for someone who has held a teaching certificate and let it lapse or they have held a teaching certificate from another state.
A local substitute certificate is for people who do not have a teaching certificate. You will need to bring a copy of your college transcripts to the Human Resources Office at 301 West F St. to see if you qualify. You will need to have some hours in several basic core classes, plus you will need 1 education class. A local sub is restricted to subbing only 40 days per school year.
All 3 certificates need to be applied for through the Nebraska Dept of Education. You can download application from their website or call (402)471-0958.
Our subs are paid $94 per day for the 2007-08 school year.
